battleground pekiti-tirsia kali

  • The main Filipino system taught here at the Battleground is Pekiti-Tirsia Kali. Pekiti-Tirsia is a close-quarter, in-fighting combat system against multiple opponents based on the use of the Blade. Pekiti-Tirsia is a system of complete strategies and tactics utilizing all close quarters weaponry, at all ranges, that provide protection from strikes and attacks, destruction of opponent’s weapons, and domination of any combat or self defense situation.

Training in the Filipino Arts

  • The Filipino Martial Arts (FMA’s) encompasses all aspects of combat, from weaponry to empty hand skills. It integrates all principles of positioning and zoning (long, medium, close range). Students learn to use weaponry first, before learning unarmed defensive techniques. The main benefits of learning weaponry first are that the open hand tactics and mechanics are based off of the weaponry techniques. It also trains the practitioner in the various ranges of fighting, as well as increasing co-ordination, timing and rhythm.

  • Since the principles of weaponry and unarmed combat are the same, the techniques are interchangeable. Practitioners learn to relate to any situation using the same concepts of body angling, positioning, zoning, and flowing with the opponent. Timing, footwork and skill are employed rather than pure strength. The Filipino Martial Arts is a fluid, adaptable and practical method of self-defense, and is considered to be one of the most comprehensive martial arts systems known. The FMA are equally based in weapon skills and empty hand skills (such as kicking, punching, trapping, and grappling). The FMA’s cover all the fighting ranges, defending against armed and unarmed attacks interchangeably with whatever is available.
