Frequently Asked Questions
Can anyone come in to train? No. We do have certain criteria that people must meet. First, you must be at least 15 years of age. Under 18 and you must come with a parent on your first visit. It is also recommended that you see a Dr and have a complete physical exam to make sure you are mentally and physically healthy to participate in this type of training and exercise. But beyond that, all ages and males and females are welcome! Feel free to come in anytime. As a general rule we do not allow "pay by day" visits, but we may allow this for former members who may be in the area home from school or from serving our country.
What will I need to bring? A great attitude! For attire all you need for your first visit is a comfortable t-shirt, shorts or sweats with no buttons or zippers and be prepared to train bare feet in all classes EXCEPT boxing. In the boxing program you will need either boxing or wrestling shoes. If you don't have them, just a clean, smooth soled sneaker will suffice for starters, but please note we do not allow street shoes other than boxing/wrestling type in the rings. For equipment; a water bottle, mouthpiece, towel, and a dry shirt to put on after your workout. (you will be sweaty) If you have equipment appropriate for the class you plan on taking, by all means bring it.
Do I need to buy any special equipment? Not necessarilly. Each class has its own recommended gear, but I suggest you do not invest in gear till you are sure this is something you plan on sticking with. Each instructor can assist you in selecting proper size and quality of equipment, based on your budget, skill level, and goals.
How do I sign up? For the boxing program only you will need to see Jaime Clampitt. For all other memberships you will need to see Chris Jacobs. We can discuss your options and get you going. We do not accept monthly cash payments...all memberships must go through EFT (electronic funds transfer) either through a checking/savings account or credit/debit card.
How much does it cost to join? There are no membership or initiation fees to join. If you sign up for the boxing program it is $60 per month. Battleground membership, which includes ALL classes offered is presently $100 per month for a six month membership.
What do I get with my membership? With the Battleground membership you get access to the gym any time during normal hours of operation, all classes or just come in for your own workout whether just banging on the bags, lifting weights, or sparring with other members, as well as all the great classes! With the boxing membership you can come in for any of the boxing classes and open workouts.
Can I sign up for one month? No. We encourage you to try a class or two out, check out other schools, and make your own informed decision. We do not use high pressure sales tactics, will not harrass you to join, we want you to WANT to join Battleground. With that said, we want members who want to train hard, train safely, and give it their all. We will openly share tons of knowledge with you , but we expect you to show dedication and commitment to us in return. That is why we have minimum commitment requirements. We believe this will also help push you to come in and train when if you didn't have that commitment, you wouldn't have the drive to push yourself!
Do I have to compete or be a great athlete or even spar if i do not wish? You will never be forced to do something you do not want to do. We may encourage you to give it a try, but it is always your choice. This will never affect your training or treatment by the instructors or other members...in fact, our members are super great people who really do go out of their way to help each other out and make new members feel comfortable in a positive atmosphere. I am very proud of that!
Are instructors available for private training? Our instructors are available to give private sessions, and all members are encouraged to take advantage. Instructors set their own pricing and scheduling, and will give privates in Battleground with members only. Non members do not have the option to train with the instructors in our facility.
